in 2019, Institute for Community Living (ICL) developed a Clergy Clinician Community Collaboration (or 4C), a collaboration between ICL, faith-based leaders (FBLs) in East NY and the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). to help clergy identify strategies to better address mental health needs of congregants including engagement in supportive services. This collaboration arose out of the extensive outreach ICL did in the planning stages of the East NY Health Hub where we identified a strong interest by clergy to engage with ICL and to be trained to recognize mental health symptoms, especially severe mental illness, substance abuse disorders and suicide prevention.
One of 4C’s initiatives is a “Lets Talk About It” series, developed for clergy to have an opportunity to hear about and discuss a variety of behavioral health topics.
